Coffee Machines Gifts Ideas

Coffee machines have exploded onto the market over the last couple of years as one of the staple ‘must have’ Christmas gifts, I’m sure you’re all tired of the different ads on TV. But where to start? There are a variety of coffee machines available for a large range of prices, which kind of compounds the issue, so we went out, researched (and tried and tested) loads of different coffee machines to find the best ones in each category for best value for money (this is a coupon website after all). We started with the budget coffee makers and finished with the premium ones.

Mechanical Coffee Makers

Bodum Travel Coffee

Bodum Double-Wall Stainless Steel Travel Coffee, $24.79 at Amazon.ca, Buy it Now

This is a travel mug that’s also a coffee maker (no, really). Simply put ground coffee in the cup, fill it with hot water then put the lid on and press the filter down (just like a cafetiere). It also comes with a second lid if you just want to use it as a travel mug. I have this model and it works great, I went through a few different ones in this class before settling for this one. It is perfect for the mornings where you’re in a hurry, which means every morning for me ;)

Bodum Chambord

Bodum Chambord Coffee Press, $49.99 at Amazon.ca, Buy it Now

If you cannot afford an espresso machine, this is a reasonably good and stylish option. It makes fairly decent coffee (I find this method of brewing coffee to give off one of the best aromas) and it’s relatively cheap (for the best in it’s class). I prefer the Bodum ones as they have a history of reliability and durability, but you can always get one at Ikea or Walmart for even cheaper, but bear in mind it probably won’t last as long.

Automatic Drip Coffeemakers

Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker

Hamilton Beach Programmable 12 Cup Coffeemaker, $49.99 at Sears.ca, Buy it Now

There are so many filter coffee machines available out there that it’s hard to pick one over another. I’ve chosen this one because it looks nice, it can be programmed and it can make up to 12 cups at the same time, which is always useful when you have a lot of people over for dinner, or a serious coffee drinker in the house. Filter coffee is probably the easiest form of coffee making, about on par with instant coffee in terms of prep time.

I didn’t find any bad reviews on this particular model which is rare. But there are a lot more models available out there, I recommend you keep an eye open on the models on sale. What model are you using, would you recommend it?

Single Serve Brewers

We already talked about single serve coffer makers in a previous post, so find all the information you need using the following link: Everything there is to know about single server brewers. It’s too tough of a subject to talk about in such a short post here without dragging on a bit, so it kind of deserved an article all to itself, as we believe there were a few myths that needed dispensing with and people needed to know the truth about these kind of coffee machines and not to believe just the hype marketers are trying to build up about them as Christmas gifts.
Krups Necafe

Krups Nescafe Dolce Gusto Circolo, $99.97 at Amazon.ca, Buy it Now

Keurig Single Serve

Keurig Platinum Single Serve Brewer KUB70, $174.97 at Amazon.ca, Buy it Now

Breville Single Serve

Breville Gourmet Single Serve Brewer BKC700XL, $249.99 at Amazon.ca, Buy it Now

Espresso Machines

Breville Espresso Machine

Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine BES860XL, $499.97 at Amazon.ca, Buy it Now

This one is an excellent first espresso machine if you’re looking for a semi-automatic one (can be automatic, can be manual). That’s what we have at the office and it makes excellent coffee, plus it is robustly built so you don’t worry about breaking it (or guests for that matter if they help themselves and don’t know what they are doing).

Gaggia Titanium

Gaggia Titanium Espresso/Cappuccino Machine, $1499.99 at Sears.ca, Buy it Now

This is probably one of the best automatic coffee machine available out there. If you have that kind of budget and you love espressos but you don’t want to spend 10 minutes making coffee, then go for this kind of coffee maker.

Personally I like automatic coffee machines, but in the office I am alone on that, Stephen and Marc-Andre both enjoy the manual labour and what they call the ‘art’ of making coffee the manual way, putting a bit of love into it, but this love comes at a price; it takes forever to make and clean the thing, so bear that in mind when dealing with espresso machines. Now there are 1001 espresso machines out there and trust us when we say we really know our coffee machines, so if you would like us to review a product or if you want to tell us your budget we can guide you to the right machine at the right price for you. The above are our top picks for a medium and top end budget coffee machine for the masses, but let’s say you wanted the best ‘bang for the buck espresso machine’ we would have to recommend the robustness and reliability (let alone the outstanding customer service) of the Breville Cafe Roma Espresso Machine.

What to Consider when Buying a Coffee Machine

The most important thing that you need to know when buying a coffee machine for someone is what kind of coffee drinker are they. What kind of coffee’s quality does the person like? How often do they drink coffee? Are they really concerned by the time it takes for making a coffee? Or what about the number of cups it can make at the same time? Do they already have a coffee machine?

Bottom line, try to get as much information about what kind of coffee lover they are as you can. Try to get an invitation for dinner so you can sneak around and investigate what kind of coffee makers they already have ;)
