Home Decor Gift Ideas for 2011
When you get the right home decor gift for someone, it makes an awesome gift as everyone likes to get new accessories for their house (even men, come on admit it), if done right it can make you feel house proud and feeling like it’s a new place all over again. But when you get it wrong, you can be sure to never see it anywhere in that person’s place, unless they take it out only when they know you’re coming, which means you paid good money for clutter.
That being said, here are a few home decor ideas that I’ve found at two of my favorite home decor stores: Crate & Barrel and CB2. There are a bunch of other stores that also have nice home decor and accessories: Sears.ca, Ikea.ca, Villeroy & Boch, etc but the aforementioned are really some of my favourites and a re pretty unique up and coming stores.

What to Consider when Buying Home Decor?
Here are a few suggestions about things to consider before buying home decor and accessories as a gift. First, I’m a firm believer that the best gifts are the ones that look nice but are also useful/funtional, as you can probably see from my selection above. For example, I would rather buy someone serving plates and bowls than wall decor because even though they don’t really like the gift, it can still be useful. Plus they can hide it in a kitchen cabinet! My boyfriend got a painting from his dad last year and unfortunately he feels like he needs to hang it on the wall.
Secondly, I also think that just like for any other gifts, it is important to consider the age of the person for which you’re buying the gift for. For example, if looking for a gift for my grandma, I’m probably going to check more wood things than the fancy stuff in stainless steel. This goes with the fact that you need to make a real effort to knuckle don the persons style and get a gift within that range not your taste (something that we all challenge with unfortunately).
