Pack your swimming trunks, lather on the sunscreen and enjoy free swimming times thanks to Tim Hortons. Quebec and Ontario residents can take advantage of free swimming in participating pools at select times. The list is huge and there’s no doubt that you’ll be able to find a pool to soak your feet in — if you live in these provinces that is.
It’s hard to be frugal in the winter months, especially if you enjoy swimming but can’t take advantage it. Public pools — the ones that aren’t free — can add up after a bit and water parks can break the bank. I have fond memories of spending complete days at my local public pool where I made a bunch of friends and always had a blast. Even as an adult, nothing can beat a good dip in a pool.
Times vary from location to location, so double-check before you head out. Capacity restrictions do apply, so get there early just in case.

Besides being a frugalista and a gamer geek, I’m also a colossal coffee drinker. Not to the two pot a day extreme, but something doesn’t feel right if I don’t get my daily dose of java in the morning. Now, I don’t usually associate McDonalds with coffee but I’m also aware that they have made huge bounds on that front and have improved ten-fold. They even offer crazy delicious smoothies like the Blueberry Pomegranate one; that was a cool surprise to discover.
But I digress from the main exciting point; McDonalds is offering a free small coffee to customers from February 25th-March 3rd. Coffee is good but free coffee is even better. There’s also rumors I heard floating around that you can order a bigger size and they will discount the price of the small from it–face it, a small coffee isn’t enough some mornings. Just be watchful of the possible line-ups; free coffee is going to drive people in like wildfire. They are also limiting it one free coffee per client.

The super popular Canadian contest Roll Up the Rim to Win is back in every Tim Hortons restaurant! This is probably one of the only time during the year that I drink Tim Horton’s coffee. I know I’m Canadian and I’m probably not allowed to say that I don’t like Time Horton’s coffee, but that’s true I just don’t like it. Sorry I’m not a big fan of the brand neither. Anyway, this being said they also have other hot beverages that will allow me to roll up the rim and get a chance to win great prices. With hockey back in full swing and teams battling for the top spot within their division, it’s time to finally show the youth in your life the origins of this glorious sport. I have to admit that I have only recently discovered the many food options at Ikea and how tastefully addicting they are. It’s inexpensive and a delight on the pallet with a wide sensation of flavors bursting burst in your mouth all at once. Treat your child to a free meal on February 11th, 2013 and introduce them to this culinary surprise.
Until 11am on this day, any child under the age of 12 will eat for free from the kids menu. While not every province observes Family Day, call ahead to your local Ikea to see if they are participating in the nice little freebie.

Mark those calendars and clear huge brackets of time in your schedule this weekend; hockey will be back January 19th, 2013. To celebrate the grand return, all of your favorite NHL teams are offering plenty of free events and even free items! Want to learn more? Check out this roundup, starting from West to East, of what your fave Canadian team is doing.
At the time of writing this post on January 17th 2013, the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs had already conducted free open practices for fans. The Edmonton Oilers did the same and even went the extra mile by offering free practices and free popcorn.
With week-long events to celebrate the return of the game, there is 50% off all food from the concession stands for the first two home games as well as 50% off all fan gear (until the end of game one). Attend one of the free open practices to score free popcorn, hotdogs and soda for an even tastier treat.
What is looking like the best fan event out of all the teams is happening in Montreal (and no, that’s not my pride talking). Starting off at 9am on January 19th 2013, fans are invited to watch the open skate for both the Montreal Canadians and Toronto Maple leafs. Attending fans always receive a free bag of chips, hot dog and soft drink.
As of 3pm, head outside the Bell center for free concerts by DJ Psychology, as well as music groups USS and Simple plan. There will also be free giveaways of white/red/blue face paint to prep for the game.
